Humantay Lake
The turquoise lake below the Salkantay glacier
About the tour
Humantay Lake is one of those stops that seem to belong to another planet: glacial water in shades running from emerald to turquoise, framed by the Salkantay glacier (6,271 m) and almost total silence, save for the wind.
After pick-up and breakfast in the village of Soraypampa, the walk climbs for an hour and a half to the shore of the lake — the most demanding stretch of the day, uphill throughout and above 4,000 m. Once up there is free time for photographs, to simply sit and watch the water, or to join a traditional Andean offering to the Pachamama if the group wishes.
The descent is quicker, and we close the day with a buffet lunch before returning to Cusco.
