Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
Arrive on foot, without camping
2 days / 1 nightModerateUp to 122,720 m.a.s.l.
About the tour
The two-day version enters the Inca Trail at kilometre 104 and covers about 12 kilometres to Machu Picchu. It is the same original stone path, without the camping nights or the 4,200-metre passes of the classic trek.
The walk passes Chachabamba by the river and climbs the hillside to Wiñay Wayna, a set of terraces and fountains suspended above the valley that many consider the finest site on the route. From there the path continues to Inti Punku, the Sun Gate: the point where Machu Picchu appears all at once, complete, below.
You sleep in a hotel in Aguas Calientes and visit the citadel with a guide the next day. Requires an official Ministry of Culture permit, with limited daily places.
