Cusco walking tour

Cusco makes most sense on foot, because what matters is literally underfoot and in the walls: the Spanish did not demolish the Inca city, they built on top of it. Half a block downtown is enough to find an Inca wall holding up a colonial balcony. The route takes in Qoricancha, the sun temple whose stone blocks remain fitted without mortar beneath the Santo Domingo convent, and climbs to San Blas, the artisan quarter of steep lanes and carving workshops running for generations. It also covers the markets, where you see the non-touristic city: stalls of Amazonian fruit, herbs, breads and the day's cooking.
