Chinchero, Maras and Moray

This circuit covers the upper Sacred Valley, above the river, and gathers three sites showing three distinct crafts. Chinchero keeps a vast Inca wall holding up its colonial church, and its weaving associations work with the same techniques and natural dyes as ever: you see the full process, from washing the wool with saqta root to dyeing with cochineal. Moray is a set of concentric circular terraces up to 30 metres deep, with several degrees of temperature difference between top and bottom — an agricultural laboratory. And Maras is over three thousand stepped basins fed by a salt spring that has run since before the Incas, still worked in family shifts today.
